Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme raises the governance bar with eMeetings and eShare

The Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme and British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme are both improving the framework for governing pension schemes using eMeetings and eShare.

eShare will provide the two Schemes with:

  • A central searchable scalable knowledge base
  • Access rights to knowledge governed by profile
  • Functionality to manage electronic decision making (eMeetings)
  • Backup of key knowledge

A key focus of eShare will be improving the way meeting information is stored using eMeetings.

“There are a huge number of parties who have a role in relation to the pension schemes and they need access to vital information to do their jobs” said Mike Furbank of Coal Pension Trustees.  “eShare allows them to see that information and also controls what they can see.  The most exciting feature is eMeetings: going forward we will be collating, distributing and storing meeting papers for Trustee Boards and sub-committees electronically in meeting sites.

“Choosing an appropriate platform was difficult but ultimately eShare was the best pensions system we examined, in that it was tailored and focussed on improving pension scheme governance”, said Mike Furbank. “What impressed us most was the flexibility of the system to adapt to meet our needs.”

“Trustee responsibilities are increasing at an unprecedented pace and the Regulator is demanding more and more from them”, said Alister Esam.  “It’s about time we started giving them the tools and information to deal with those responsibilities.  How else can they deliver for their members?”
